Math Program

The Dazzle School Math Program is a hands-on interactive skill-development program designed to strengthen the skills that our students already have in math - an essential life skill. We help our students become more independent and have better control of their own finances, such as going to the bank, shopping, and keeping track of time. Our Math Program teaches students to think more critically and anaylize different situations before they act.

Skills Taught: Different forms and increments of money, how to present money to a store cashier, using a vending machine, reading clocks, recognizing fractions, converting measurements & more.

This program is available to many different age groups and ability levels.

Science Program

The Dazzle School Science Program is about helping people with disabilities in creating awareness about nature and procedures that are part of a normal household setting. In our Science Program, students learn about temperature, housekeeping,, reading a calendar, clothing care, astronomy and other technical concepts. Students will become more confident and independent as they learn about their environment and become active members of their society.

Students are encouraged to interact with each other in a comfortable environment. Students participate in real-life situations that they might encouter in their household. School, and community Students are shown the basic structures and functions of the human body and how they relate to their personal health.

PosAbilities Program

Dazzle School's PosAbilities is an hourly respite program for after school and Saturdays which has an "arts" with education focus, bringing music, visual and performing arts to people with varying ability levels.The purpose of this program is to promote everyday skills while offering hourly respite services to our individuals with developmental and intellectual disability.

This program includes outbound activities within the community. These trips outside of the Dazzle School environment offer leisure and social opportunities, while reinforcing skills and increasing self-sufficiency for everyday living and community interatction. Some of the areas which this program offers are:

Personal health and wellness
Vocational studies
Social Studies
Arts – Visual, Performing, technical
Creative Writing
Video and Film Projects
WOW – Winners on Wheels
Away We Go – Travel program and opportunities

Another component to the PosAbilities program is family advocacy and training. Our staff is available to support understanding and acceptance of the developmentally disabled. We can also discuss strategies for assisting in skill improvements outside of our program, whether at home or school.

FutureAbilities Program

Dazzle School's FutureAbilities program provides education and skill development to individuals with developmental disabilities who are transitioning into the world of work. Through on-site classes that provide hands-on teaching, FutureAbilities helps individuals learn the basics of getting a job and keeping it, while also leaning how to manage their money.

The FutureAbilities curriculum consists of three educational tracks that form a self-sufficiency model: 1) Financial Management, 2) Entrepreneurship, 3) Employability Skills.

FUTURE$ Program

Through the combined purposes of Dazzle School, Catholic Family Center and the Credit Education Bureau, FUTURE$ has adopted a mission of endowing community residents with critical life and soft-skills that lead to independence and success. The main component of the FUTURE$ initiative is a curriculum born from the knowledge and expertise of the members of the FUTURE$ collaboration and elements of nationally recognized curricula. This curriculum consists of three educational tracks containing 30 instruction modules. Each module is presented in an interactive workshop format and requires approximately one hour of teaching time. There is also a youth version of the FUTURE$ curriculum, offering a more condensed and youth oriented approach

Through The Lens Program

Through The Lens is an adaptive, collaborated program taught in conjunction with the George Eastman House International Gallery and Dazzle School of Visual & Performing Arts to facilitate the presentation of Exceptional Children as they view the world through the camera lens.

Students learn all about digital photography; they will explore lighting, color, texture, composition, framing, editing photographs with PC software and other subject matter to achieve a solid grounding in both technical and creative photographic processes.

Course Outline: 1 & 2) Getting to know your camera, 3) Shooting - capturing images, 4&5) Introduction to image enhancing software, 6) Tour of professional photographer studio, 7&8) Framing and presentation, 9&10) Planning a photo exhibition.

Consecutive Saturday classes and shooting assignments will take place on location in four main categories: If You Could See My World (Architecture of Rochester), People In My World, World in Abstract (Colors & Textures), and Animals and Nature.

Drums For Fun

Drums For Fun is an ongoing program that we offer free to the public to participate in. This hands-on program includes a free drum class with instructors Dave Mancini and Alex Reeder, great music, fun and refreshments, held at the Dazzle Theatre. Please call for times and dates.

Paws Fur Kids

Paws Fur Kids is a pet therapy program offered at Dazzle School. This program consists of monthly visits with therapy dogs and their owners who visit Dazzle so our individuals can learn and practice the understanding and care of animals. Our students have the opportunity to groom, read to and play with these dogs and learn, from the owners about the therapy dog program and how a dog “graduates” from it. Our photography program takes pictures of our individuals with the dogs to be used in displays around the community.

Physical Theatre/Circus Arts

Physical Theatre and Circus Arts | Rochester NY

This program is for ages 9-16 and includes building a human body pyramid, acrobatics, balancing, juggling, pipe-walking, and unicycling. This program teaches self-assurance, socialization skills, keeping physically fit and being independent but also a part of the team. As students need to depend on each other to assist in some of the exercises, it also teaches trust of your fellow classmate.

Dazzling Chefs

This culinary program is instructed by two professional chefs. The students involved in this program will learn the importance of proper nutrition, the benefits of eating correctly and how to maintain weight and avoid obesity. They will also learn about other cultures and their diets, will learn to cook foods from several different countries, will tour a grocery store, a kitchen and will eat a meal in that restaurant. This encourages healthy body and great socialization.

Motivation Through Visualization

This program uses stories and pictures in a carefully structured yet flexible series of workshops, which keeps the attention of the youth, designed to assist young people in developing a positive self-image. Individuals learn how to plan and organize basic goals in life, will be exposed to various life skills projects necessary to reach their goals. They will also develop pride in them selves to be the best they can be from learning new skills, appreciate the various differences in each culture and program culminates in painting of murals in the community, instructed by a master mural painter.
