History of the Theatre

Renaissance, Medieval; Japanese, American, Greek, Roman, English Restoration, and Modem are the types of theater you'll learn about and discuss in class. 3 sessions. Instructor: Anne Harvey

Intro to Children's Theatre
Covers all elements of children's theater and will concentrate on acting skills and children working together. A final performance will be presented at the end of the 8 sessions. 8 sessions. Instructor: Anne Harvey

Children's Theatre
Acting to me is an art. I will teach my students the art of acting from the beginning to the end of the theatre process. I will teach these students different ways to convince an audience that they are the character they are playing. I will also teach them different ways to memorize lines. Students who are interested in learning the craft or just stu- dents who are looking for different ways to learn and retain knowledge should take my class. My students will also learn to articulate better and to effectively project their voices to an audience. My goal is to also give the students better confidence in themselves. 10 Sessions. The Art of Mime
Ages 10 and up will learn the techniques for mime: mime walking, running, climbing ladders, up and down stairs, as well as basic mime move- ments and techniques. Required: black socks or dance shoes. 4 sessions. Instructor: Anne Harvey

Intro to Drama
For Ages 8-15. Become comfortable on stage or in front of groups. A great introduction to the theatre, this class offers a foundation in acting rules, stage direction, and role-playing. Use what you learn in a final performance. 15 sessions.

Advanced Drama
An in-depth exploration of stage performing. In addition to working with others, you will hone your individual skills through monologues, infomercials and comedy routines. Choose a piece for final class graduation performance in the form of a play. 15 sessions. Instructor: Anne Harvey

Talent with Disabilities
Developed to enable those with disabilities to receive the information and support necessary to enter themselves into the media, talent, advertising and arts industries. Students will receive instruction in basic acting techniques, various forms of the arts and how, to apply these techniques in securing assignments in --these fields. Students will act out improvisations, role-playing and learn interview, consultation and personal direction techniques. How to market, approach, and work with directors and producers will be covered. This course is designed for those individuals with disabilities and those closest to them. 3 sessions. Instructor: Anne Harvey

Circus Acts/Physical Theater
This course will consist of learning skills in acrobatics, solo trapeze, juggling, costume design and making, and will encourage students to develop as needed. Students will improve on their mental and physical disabilities, improve confidence and abilities, learn how to assist and trust each other to develop good team-member skills, improve on attitude level and competency while working on their endurance level and developing balance abilities. Students should be physically reasonably able to accomplish the necessary physical movements related to this art form. Summer Session TBA. Instructor: Panni Speirs

YouthRun Productions
Purpose of program: After school to engage community youth's participation in the preparation for, and production of, a community theater production. Youth participants will be given first-hand artistic experiences to take real responsibility, make decisions, work cooperatively, and interact with professional artists in all aspects of theater production. Youth participants: youth, 12 to., 18, from the Rochester community will be eligible to participate in the program. Special consideration will be made for youth with special needs affiliated with DAZZLE member agencies. Benefits of program: The program is designed to be educational and vocatignal in scope; participants will learn performance and/or technical skills from professional artists who will act as mentors to guide the young person in acquiring mastery of progressively more complex skills and tasks, through demonstration, instru¨tion, challenge, and encouragement. In the course of this process the artist and youth will develop a special bond of mutual commitment. In addition, the YouthRun Productions program will focus on integrating the fundamental principles of SCANS (Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills) which includes basic skills (reading, writing, arithmetic/mathematics, listening, and speaking); thinking skills (creative thinking, decision making; problem solving, seeing things in the Mind's eye, knowing how to learn, and reasoning); personal qualities (responsibility, self-esteem, sociability, sell management, and integrity/honesty). Program special feature: YouthRun Productions intends to document the process of putting on a community theater production from ¨ncepttia1 beginning to final presentation via videogapy. The videographed segments will be shown in a of "episodes" on local television stations(s) chronicling behind the scenes hands-on learning experiences that the participating youth will be involved in during the procets of theater produc- tion. Local television stations targeted include Community Television channels, WXXI Rochester PBS station and UPN cable channel.
